Growing Pains

Growing Pains

Oh the joys of social media marketing……UGHHHH. Between building followers and navigating algorithms, I’m exhausted. Kudos to the ones who do this for fun, you’re the real MVP. Building a strong social media presence is HARD! I don’t get how all these influencers have 100’s of videos to share effortlessly. However, this is what I chose when I started BTE so I asked for this. But why does the learning curve have to be so hard?

One thing I have noticed is that the hardest audience to break into are the ones you know. I can’t even be mad. I looked back at all my page request that I ignored simply because I knew them so it didn’t seem serious to me. Before you roast me, I have gone back and accepted all those requests to show my support. I see it through a different lens and bottom line is everyone is just trying to be successful in their own craft. I get it now and I"m sorry.

When I first started all I wanted was for friends and family to buy my products, now my mindset has shifted. I don’t want a mercy buy, I’d rather you share my posts than purchase something that you weren’t in love with. Just like there is a lid for every pot, there is a buyer for every product. Helping me expand my audience is more valuable than just buying for the sake of buying. It feels different too when you have a customer that’s actually excited about what you are sending them too.
That’s where the fulfillment comes from, not the money, but the moment of excitement you send when opening the package. That’s why I wanted to focus on the presentation. Let’s be honest, who doesn’t love getting a package? I know I do. Shout out to FunFitFab who used to make my day once a month (IYKYN).
I think I had a delusion in my head that as soon as I created BTE it would soar and the products would sell themselves….. or maybe that was just my hope. Here we are 5 months later and my total followers are 65 on Facebook and 31 on Instagram…pathetic right?! That’s okay though, I can only go up from here. After lots of research I discovered a few things that should help build my followers so I thought you should know them too. If you are trying to build your fan base, this is what they say to do:

COMMENT: Likes are cool and necessary but what matters more is an active comment section. The algorithm responds differently to comments and that means give and take. If you want people to comment on your things, then you need to post meaningful responses on theirs. You get what you give.

FOLLOWING: Be careful how many people you follow and why. If you go liking everyones pages in hopes that they will follow you back (guilty) you will confuse the algorithm. It won’t know what target audience you are going for and in a sense it won’t know how to help you. Follow who you want but if you are looking for a specific market then you may want to check out their pages first to see if they are the ideal target audience for you. Just something to think about.

GROUPS: These can be very helpful. At minimum they give you a community of support who can relate and bounce ideas off of. These will change overtime as well, you may choose to create your own as well. Browse around and see what relates to you. This is a great way to get your name out there as well.

PAID ADVERTISING: My experience was a big fat flop. I got $0 sales, 0 likes, and 0 new followers and I did it twice. It may work for some but authentic exposure is really your best bet. However, I haven’t counted it all out yet I may have just done it too early to really make a difference. I would use this tool more like an add on after you have done the legwork. It will feel so different when you start to see results due to your own inputs.

CONTENT: The days of pretty pictures are slowly fading away. These days everyone wants videos, tutorials, box office movies, grammy nominated clips on your page. Talk about pressure. I barely even posted my face on my personal page, now I’m expected to give you my voice and unfiltered body, oh boy. That’s what the people want though and trust me I’ve tried just posting a regular pic, the people want more. So give them more. We will both work on that. My comfort zone is about to explode.

This new world of social media marketing is intriguing to say the least. Hopefully we can all be successful. I hope you make millions posting your thirst trap photos. Just know I support you! I'm sure there are a million hacks out there that you guys use too. Drop a comment below and share. After all, it's not as fun getting to the finish line if there's no one there cheering you on.

With Love,
Kim
